Mini bio

How it started.

Growing up in Mexico City, Deborah loved asking questions but was discouraged from studying science. She began in philosophy, then pursued physics at Brandeis with a mentor’s help. She went on to become the first Mexican woman to earn a physics PhD at Stanford.

Making physics visible.

Television brought her explanations to a wider audience. On Outrageous Acts of Science, she helped unpack the physics behind extraordinary internet videos and engineering feats. Her talks and online videos extend that curiosity beyond the classroom.

Paying it forward.

Her mentor Roopesh Ojha asked her to repay his help by mentoring others. She has made that idea central to her science communication. In 2025, she launched Dazzling Science with IF/THEN support, featuring conversations about robotics, fusion, space and AI.

What she works on now.

Alongside public science communication, Deborah is a partner and AI Products Leader at EY. Her earlier work includes data science education at Metis and quantum computing at Finland’s VTT.
