Deborah began running businesses at 19. After business college, her early ventures included glass and ceramics, a Stefanel franchise and a prize bingo concession at Butlins. She later joined the family amusement arcade business before moving into Weststar Holidays.

Building a business.

At Weststar, Deborah became managing director and helped grow the operation from one holiday park to five. She led a management buyout in 1999, then sold her stakes in deals in 2005 and 2007. Dragons’ Den brought her investing approach to television audiences when she joined in 2006.

Sharing what she knows.

Her books take business and money questions to different readers, from Common Sense Rules to Why Money Matters for children and Deborah Meaden Talks Money for young people. With journalist Felicity Hannah, she also co-presented The Big Green Money Show, exploring how companies and consumers can reduce their impact on the planet.

People and planet.

Deborah’s current work connects investment with environmental responsibility. Alongside business advice on her own channels, she supports conservation campaigns and narrated River Action’s animated film Water: A Story of Hope. Away from work, she enjoys walking on Dartmoor and caring for rescue animals.
