Mini bio
How it started.
Dom grew up in Cheltenham, earned a PhD in quantum device physics at the University of Birmingham, and worked in Canada’s quantum computing industry. He told STEM Learning that dinosaur and nature books first drew him in, while a television programme and books about quantum physics helped steer him towards studying physics.
A cat with questions.
In 2011, his schoolfriend Ben Newman approached him about making a children’s space book. They developed Professor Astro Cat together, with Dom writing the science and Ben illustrating it. Frontiers of Space appeared in 2013, followed by books exploring physics and the human body.
Mapping the big picture.
Domain of Science gives viewers a way to see how whole subjects fit together. The Map of Physics, The Map of Mathematics and Map of Computer Science became signature videos, alongside his explanations of quantum physics. His newer maps take that curiosity into fungi and the night sky.
