Mini bio
How it started.
Caroline grew up in Chicago in a Nigerian immigrant family with six children and wanted to become a doctor despite having no doctors in the family. In an Authority Magazine interview, Caroline described pushing past discouragement at college, medical school and work.
Building Tone.
After studying at Cornell and earning a medical degree at the University of Louisville, Caroline completed dermatology residency at Southern Illinois University, serving as chief resident in the final year. A decision in 2019 to pursue solo practice led to Tone Dermatology’s opening in 2020, just as the pandemic arrived.
Finding an audience.
By 2020, social media was already helping people find the practice: Caroline told Dermatology Weekly that about half of its patients had arrived through social media in some form. That public education work now includes Set the Tone and appearances such as The Jennifer Hudson Show, with recurring attention to skin of color and inclusive beauty.
