Mini bio

How it started.

Vanita studied medicine at UCL before learning cosmetic formulation in her parents’ laboratory. In interviews, she traces that interest to her own experience of early-onset melasma and her search for products suited to melanin-rich skin. She founded The Hyperpigmentation Clinic in 2012.

Finding her community.

When Covid forced her clinics to close, she kept the laboratory and concentrated on YouTube and Instagram. Ingredient explanations, product reviews and routines for skin of colour became the centre of her online work. She describes asking viewers which products and ingredients they wanted, then bringing them into the development process.

From videos to books and formulas.

Her first Skincare by Dr V product was a lip hyperpigmentation kit, which she says sold out. Skin Revolution followed in 2022, collecting her skincare teaching into a book. In 2024, she collaborated with The Derma Co. on the five-product Skin Renew range for Indian consumers.
