Mini bio
How it started.
Emily found her way into styling while working at Jonathan Adler, where stylists came to rent furniture and pottery. She contacted them and became an assistant to Cindy DiPrima. After four years, she began taking her own jobs, with DiPrima passing along work she could not fit in.
The television break.
In 2010, Emily won the fifth season of HGTV Design Star. The prize was her own show, Secrets From a Stylist, which began with a special styling Glee co-creator Ian Brennan’s home.
A place to learn together.
Her design blog grew from a personal journal into a team-run publication about homes, style, and everyday life. Room reveals come with the choices behind them, including budgets, mistakes, and changes of mind. Her books extend that practical approach: Styled focuses on arranging spaces, while The New Design Rules tackles decorating and renovation.
Home in Oregon.
Emily lives on a mini farm outside Portland with her husband and two children. Her farmhouse and family projects give readers a continuing look at how a home evolves, from a kitchen designed with ARCIFORM to the guest cottage renovation.
