Mini bio

How it started.

Before Magnolia, Joanna worked at her father’s tire shop in Waco and appeared in its local TV commercials. She graduated from Baylor in 2001 after studying communication. A New York internship helped her realize she wanted a more creative path, and in 2003 she opened a home decor shop while renovating houses with Chip.

The breakout.

Fixer Upper introduced viewers to Joanna’s designs and Chip’s renovation work in Waco. The HGTV pilot aired in 2013, followed by the first full season in 2014. Their home transformations became the foundation for a wider world of books, products, and television.

A world of home.

Joanna and Chip cofounded Magnolia and cocreated Magnolia Network. She also edits Magnolia Journal. Her work moves between rooms and recipes: Homebody shares her approach to personal spaces, while the Magnolia Table books and cooking shows invite fans into the kitchen. Her picture books bring that attention to everyday life to younger readers.
