How it started.
Emily started Beauty Broadcast in late 2007 while working in television news. In a 2019 interview, Emily described filming after work as a way to share a love of makeup and connect with others. News work and YouTube ran alongside each other until late 2012, when Emily moved into creating full time.
An early spotlight.
In November 2010, viewers voted Emily the first winner of YouTube’s On the Rise spotlight. The win put Beauty Broadcast on YouTube’s homepage. Emily credited a loyal community and described the channel as a place for positivity and inner beauty as well as makeup.
From reviews to palettes.
In 2018, Emily introduced The Emily Edit with Makeup Revolution. The Needs combined favorite face and eye shades from the brand, while The Wants offered a broader eyeshadow selection. Emily described spending months working through samples, swatches and shade placement.
