How it started.

Before marketing became his career, Eric spent years playing competitive games. He says gaming taught him teamwork and resilience. He later led growth at Treehouse, an online education startup, before taking on the challenge of rebuilding Single Grain.

Building something of his own.

Single Grain dates his acquisition of the struggling SEO agency to 2014. The often-told $2 story involved more than a tiny cash payment: Eric explained in his Foundr interview that other partners would be paid from future profits. His career grew around turning the agency around and sharing what he learned.

Finding his audience.

His interview podcast began as Growth Everywhere, now known as Leveling Up. In a 2020 Supercasters interview, he recalled getting just nine downloads a day during its first year. He kept going. Marketing School followed in 2016, with Eric and Neil Patel sharing marketing lessons in a daily show.
