Mini bio
How it started.
Erika’s interest in money grew out of her own student loans. After Georgetown Law, she faced more than $200,000 in debt and taught herself how repayment worked. She says she paid it off in two years, using a budget, refinancing, and negotiations with lenders. Sharing what she learned became the starting point for her finance content.
From law to the camera.
A graduate of Notre Dame and Georgetown Law, Erika worked as a corporate lawyer before building a business around financial education. In her own account of her social media journey, she dates her first YouTube video to November 2019. She also founded Plug and Law to make legal resources more accessible to small business owners.
The fine print became the hook.
Her short videos turn company policies and consumer rights into everyday conversations. A 2021 Nike warranty video became one of her signature examples. Her official biography says her TikTok breakout brought more than a million followers in 48 hours. The familiar promise is simple: she reads the fine print so viewers can understand what they are entitled to.
Making room for longer conversations.
In October 2022, Erika launched Erika Taught Me, opening with an interview with real estate entrepreneur Ryan Serhant. The show also brought her consumer rights focus into a conversation with then transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg. Alongside the videos and podcast, she publishes explainers on money, travel, and consumer policies at Erika.com.
