Mini bio
How it started.
Frances trained in computer mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania and earned her PhD at Wharton. Her work as a professor grew around a practical question: how can leaders create conditions where other people do their best work?
From the classroom to a public crisis.
In 2017, she took leave from Harvard Business School to become Uber’s first senior vice president of leadership and strategy. Her experience helping the company work through its leadership and culture crisis informed her 2018 TED talk, How to build (and rebuild) trust.
Ideas you can use.
With Anne Morriss, Frances wrote Uncommon Service, Unleashed, and Move Fast & Fix Things. Their books move from customer service to empowering people and leading change, with trust running through the work.
A conversation with listeners.
On April 3, 2023, Frances and Anne launched Fixable with the TED Audio Collective. The married co-hosts help callers work through career and workplace problems, bringing their coaching into a format fans can listen to each week.
