Mini bio

How it started.

Hajar started Moribyan for fun during freshman year of college. After earning a nutrition and dietetics degree at UC Berkeley, Hajar worked while building the blog on the side, then left that job in 2020 to create full time.

Food and family.

In a 2019 interview with Our Tunisian Table, Hajar explained that the blog began as a way to learn more about Moroccan and Libyan culture while growing up in California. Moribyan combines those two backgrounds, and the About page credits Hajar’s husband with helping create the name.

Recipes people shared.

The Ramadan cooking series brought Moribyan to a wider audience. In 2022, Good Morning America featured Hajar’s chocolate-covered peanut butter dates and saffron chicken kabobs. Hajar said the goal was approachable food that people could still make while tired from fasting.

From screen to bookshelf.

Moribyan’s Kitchen followed in October 2026. Its 100 recipes bring together quick dinners, restaurant favorites recreated at home, desserts, and dishes from Hajar’s Moroccan and Libyan family table.
