Mini bio
How it started.
Julius first tried sourdough baking in Amsterdam. The loaf was dense and barely rose, but it left him curious about food. He named his starter Hermann after Germany’s friendship-cake tradition.
From film to food.
At film school, he made a documentary about artisanal cheddar. During the pandemic he began teaching sourdough online as Baking Hermann, then spent more than a year assisting Jamie Oliver as a food stylist.
Following the recipes.
After adopting a vegan diet, he began exploring dishes that were already plant-based. Those journeys became Vegan Cultures and his first cookbook, Naturally Vegan. He also serves as a Slow Food UK ambassador.
