Mini bio
How it started.
Jake grew up in Dix Hills on Long Island and was hosting dinner parties while still in high school. He studied at the Culinary Institute of America, then cooked at ABC Kitchen and Daniel in New York before moving into food writing.
Finding his voice.
A test-kitchen role at Saveur gave him room to explore family recipes, including an apple cake from his great-grandmother. He went on to work as food editor at Tasting Table, restaurant critic at Time Out New York, and editorial director at the Feedfeed.
From the screen to the table.
During the pandemic, his recipe videos, challah tutorials, and live virtual cooking sessions helped grow his audience. Jew-ish arrived in 2021 and became a New York Times bestseller, bringing together Ashkenazi recipes and Persian-Iraqi influences from his family.
Keep a place at the table.
I Could Nosh followed in 2023, and his television show Jake Makes It Easy brought his cooking to A+E. His third book, Dinner Party Animal, expands the invitation with menus and practical plans for feeding friends. Hosting and community remain a thread through his books and his work with OneTable and City Harvest.
