Mini bio
How it started.
Raised in the north of England, James studied art and worked in visual merchandising before makeup became his career. He started at the MAC counter in Manchester’s Trafford Centre in 2001. Promotion to senior artist brought Fashion Week opportunities, and he later became MAC’s director of makeup artistry for Asia Pacific in Hong Kong.

Back in the UK, James and his partner Alex launched MYKITCO in November 2015 to bring brushes, bags and tools together in one place. The brand began with practical kit needs, including the My Brush Buddy. Its first collaboration, with Danessa Myricks, followed in 2024.
Sharing the process.
Alongside celebrity and editorial work, James uses Instagram to share tutorials and application tips. Makeup Live makes that teaching a regular conversation with viewers, covering everything from complexion to graphic liner. He also creates tools and facechart books that help artists practise and organise their work.
