Mini bio
A snake started it.
As a child visiting his grandparents in Middleborough, Massachusetts, Jeff became fascinated by a garter snake. He later told an ECU audience that the encounter set him on the path to becoming a naturalist. Seeing a neighbor kill a snake helped turn that curiosity into a commitment to conservation.
From fieldwork to television.
He saved for two years to join a scientific expedition to Belize as a teenager. By 1994, he was returning as a naturalist for the JASON Project’s electronic field trip. Disney Channel’s Going Wild with Jeff Corwin began in 1997, and The Jeff Corwin Experience followed on Animal Planet in 2000.
Giving conservation a human face.
His work now follows both animals and the people protecting them. Wildlife Nation began in partnership with Defenders of Wildlife, while Expedition Florida brought in the Miccosukee Tribe. Extraordinary World widened the lens to animal welfare and community care, and Southern Wild focuses on North Carolina’s wildlife and conservation work.
