Mini bio

How it started.

Jeremy grew up in Washington, D.C., and started a food blog in high school while working at a local bakery. Before the cooking videos, there were cupcakes, quiches, coffee cakes and cooking demonstrations at Williams-Sonoma.

The college kitchen.

In 2020, with Cornell moving to remote classes, Jeremy began filming recipes to use up ingredients left in an off-campus apartment. By March 2021, the TikTok audience had reached two million. Studies in Spanish, Italian and food science fed a style that mixes cooking instructions with cultural context and explanations of why a technique works.

Recipes to keep.

The crispy potatoes became a signature recipe: boil, rough up the edges and roast, with seasonings left open to the cook. Cooking Smarter followed in 2023, pairing approachable recipes with explanations of food science and a practical set of repeat ingredients. Grandma Nan painted the book’s illustrations.

What’s next in the kitchen.

Recent work includes the newsletter the scheck in, family baking recipes, Spanish food writing and the ScheckEats Recipe Calculator. The calculator brings recipe scaling and ingredient comparisons into a tool designed for home bakers.
