Mini bio
How it started.
Joel began a fashion blog called The Hallowed Ground around college, sharing outfits long before it became a job. After studying contemporary performing arts at Chichester, Joel moved to London and found a way into fashion through the blog and Instagram.
From styling to creating.
Assistant styling led to work on music videos, editorial shoots and The X Factor, followed by personal styling at ASAP54 and a studio role with the Net-a-Porter group. Joel left that job in December 2015 and relaunched the blog as Gallucks.com in 2016, bringing it under the same name as Instagram and YouTube.
Finding an audience.
Outfit posts grew into a career while Joel was still working in styling. In a 2016 PAUSE interview, Joel recalled beginning to charge brands at around 20,000 followers and saving the blogging income before going freelance. Videos offered a more conversational space, starting with a sneaker collection and growing into shopping, personal style and travel.
Making things, and telling the story.
Joel’s projects include the 2021 nu-in clothing capsule and the clothing brand ARCANA. In August 2026, Joel returned to longer writing with the Substack “i’m gay and have good taste.”, including a frank account of ARCANA’s failure and essays about identity, fashion and life as a creator.
