Mini bio

How it started.

Whole Parent grew out of Jon’s own effort to parent differently. Becoming a father overlapped with seminary counseling classes, foster parent training, and the loss of his dad to cancer. Those experiences pushed him to question the discipline he had grown up with and study other ways to respond to children.

Finding his people.

Jon says he started on TikTok in February 2022, initially talking about religion before turning toward parenting. In a later interview, he recalled reaching 200,000 followers within a couple of months of sharing his parenting approach. His short videos made ideas from child development easier for other parents to try at home.

Beyond the short videos.

His first book, Punishment-Free Parenting, arrived in January 2025 with a foreword by Tina Payne Bryson. Set My Feelings Free followed in April 2026, with illustrations by his wife, Jess. He also hosts The Whole Parent Podcast, where he answers parent questions and talks with guests about family life.

Still practicing.

Jon describes his family as the place where he practices what he teaches. Alongside his parenting work, his publisher identifies him as senior pastor at Hope Covenant Church in Orland Park, Illinois, and a former hospital chaplain in the Chicago area.
