Mini bio

How it started.

Before the books and bassinet, Karp spent decades working directly with families. He trained at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and pursued fellowships in ambulatory pediatrics and child development at UCLA. He then practiced general pediatrics in Santa Monica for 30 years.

From the clinic to the bookshelf.

The Happiest Baby on the Block arrived as a book and video in 2002. It brought his fourth-trimester ideas and 5 S’s approach to a wider audience. The Happiest Toddler on the Block extended his work to tantrums and communication, including his Toddler-ese technique.

Building a helping hand.

Karp co-founded Happiest Baby with his wife, Nina Montée Karp. He worked with designer Yves Béhar and MIT-trained engineers to turn his soothing ideas into SNOO, launched in 2016. Alongside that product work, he continues to teach through interviews and his Ask Dr. Harvey Karp column at Esquire.
