Mini bio

How it started.

Joseph’s interest in owning income-producing assets began at home: his father involved him in the family’s rental properties. In his 2020 Reddit AMA, he named his dad, Warren Buffett and Peter Lynch as major influences. He started The Joseph Carlson Show in 2019 to let viewers follow his own portfolio and the reasons behind his decisions.

Finding an audience.

Regular portfolio updates, business news and answers to viewers’ questions became the show’s foundation. By his November 2020 AMA, Joseph reported more than 134,000 YouTube subscribers and 20,000 audio listeners. He described himself as an amateur investor and a senior full-stack web developer.

From code to companies.

Joseph says he spent eight years as a senior-level programmer before making YouTube content full time. He brings an iterative learning approach to researching businesses and has built Qualtrim, the stock analysis platform he uses and shares with his community.

Following the journey.

His main channel and After Hours give fans an ongoing record of his investments and company research. He shares both dividend and growth portfolios, and describes his aim as buying high-quality businesses to hold for the long term. His August 2026 portfolio retrospective revisited how the journey began.
