Mini bio
How it started.
Before the food tours, there were pictures of everyday meals. In Lonely Planet India’s May 2020 issue, Karan recalled learning the basics of cooking from their mother and posting home-cooked food on Facebook. Those posts grew into a Facebook group. Karan’s LinkedIn profile dates their food content work to 2013.
A community around the table.
Dil Se Foodie’s own website describes a community where people shared what they cooked, ate and discovered. Karan, its founder and director, helped build that community through food walks, photographs, restaurant reviews and blogger meet-ups. Early outings included Chandni Chowk walks and food explorations in Kolkata, Amritsar and Srinagar.
Finding a way forward.
In a 2021 Josh Talks appearance, Karan described career uncertainty, an unsuccessful path through animation and the loss of their mother to cancer. The talk traces how an unexpected invitation to a ₹400 food review helped open a path into restaurant reviews and content creation.
From street stalls to home cooking.
By May 2020, Forbes India reported that Dil Se Foodie had 1.21 million YouTube followers. When lockdown closed the stalls and restaurants Karan usually filmed, the channel turned to home-cooked recipes. Karan told the magazine that a chicken biryani video reached 16.7 million views on Facebook, showing how differently the two platforms’ audiences responded.
