How it started.
Kathryne started Cookie and Kate in 2010 as a creative outlet while working an office job in Oklahoma City. Writing, photography and web design were already interests of hers. Sharing a salsa recipe and hearing back from readers helped her find the blog’s direction.
Finding her audience.
The site became a food blog in 2011. Saveur named Cookie and Kate a Best Cooking Blog finalist in 2012, an early marker of recognition, and she made the blog her full-time work in 2014.
From blog to book.
Her first cookbook, Love Real Food, arrived on May 16, 2017 through Rodale Books. It collects more than 100 meatless recipes, with tested options for different dietary needs and photographs of every recipe.
Cooking today.
A self-taught cook from Oklahoma, Kate now works from Kansas City. Her recipes are vegetarian and centered on whole foods, with room for dessert and drinks. Lentil soup, banana bread and granola feature among the site’s most popular recipes.
