Mini bio

How it started.

Meera was born in Lincolnshire to Ugandan Indian parents. Wanting to preserve her family’s food traditions, she returned to her mother’s kitchen to record the recipes she had grown up with. Those dishes and their stories became Made in India in 2014.

From family recipes to a weekly column.

Made in India became a top-ten bestseller. Fresh India followed in 2016 and won the Observer Food Monthly award for best new cookbook in 2017. She began The New Vegan for the Guardian that same year. East, published in the UK in 2019, widened her focus to vegetable-led cooking across Asian cuisines.

Making Dinner.

Her fourth book, Dinner, arrived in 2024. In her 2025 TASTE interview, she described finding her way back to cooking after burnout and turning that experience into a book about getting a satisfying meal on the table.
