Mini bio
How it started.
Maya started Yummy O Yummy in 2010 with her cousin Lakshmi. Her husband suggested a blog as a place to collect recipes she wanted to share with friends. She later took over the blog after Lakshmi moved back to India.
From her kitchen.
The blog began with South Indian cooking and fusion dishes, then widened to other cuisines. Maya says she tests every recipe in her own kitchen and uses step-by-step photographs to help less experienced cooks.
Family recipes, written down.
In a 2017 FWD Life interview, she described documenting recipes passed down by word of mouth. On visits to India, she photographed her mother’s cooking, including dishes whose ingredients were hard to find in the US.
Into print.
In November 2014, Maya announced her first two cookbooks with DC Books: Snack Box Recipes and Lunch Box Vibhavangal. She said they took more than a year of work and included recipes that were not on the blog.
