Mini bio
Music at home.
Maria grew up with a Pakistani father and Filipina mother, surrounded by music and family karaoke. Her mother encouraged her singing across styles. She began piano lessons at about eight and turned to guitar around thirteen.
Finding her audience.
In a 2017 interview, Maria recalled her first official singing gig with Noori for Fanta in 2013. A friend encouraged her to send a video to Nescafé Basement producer Xulfi, who contacted her on Facebook. The show helped her learn to collaborate and gave her confidence to continue.
Songs with a personal story.
Her all-girl rendition of John Newman’s “Love Me Again” on Nescafé Basement reached a wider audience. “Strong” was dedicated to her late mother. Later, “Feel” explored a love that could last through anything, using outer-space imagery inspired by Maria’s fascination with space.
From solo songs to collaborations.
She became Spotify’s EQUAL Pakistan ambassador in January 2023, with “Feel” featured on the programme’s playlist and her image appearing in Times Square. Her 2024 releases included “Jeena Nahin” with Bilal Ali, “mouqa” with Zoha Zuberi and Zahra Paracha, and “Citylights” with JJ47, Talha Anjum and Umair.
