Mini bio
Early hustle.
Cuban grew up in Pittsburgh selling garbage bags and magazines door to door. After Indiana University, he moved to Dallas, worked as a bartender and then sold software. Getting fired from that software job pushed him to start MicroSolutions, which he sold to CompuServe in 1990.
The internet breakthrough.
Cuban and Todd Wagner wanted to hear Indiana University basketball games in Dallas. That idea helped lead to AudioNet, later Broadcast.com, and its $5.7 billion stock sale to Yahoo. Cuban went on to buy the Dallas Mavericks; the team won its first NBA championship in 2011.
From the Tank to healthcare.
Cuban first appeared on Shark Tank in 2011 and became a familiar face to fans watching founders pitch. His final regular episode aired in May 2025. Away from television, he co-founded Cost Plus Drugs, whose online pharmacy launched on January 19, 2022 with transparent pricing and a limited markup.
