How it started.
Merritt grew up in Austin and studied at Southern Methodist University, switching from vocal performance to psychology. While working in social media in Houston, Merritt started a fashion blog as a hobby, writing at night and on weekends. The blog launched in January 2011 under the name Manolos & Martinis and later became The Style Scribe.
Turning a hobby into a career.
After two years working at rewardStyle, Merritt left in December 2014 to blog full time. In an interview with The Human Connection, Merritt described seeing affiliate sales grow into a possible livelihood. The seasonal capsule wardrobes introduced in 2019 immediately became the blog’s most popular content, according to Merritt’s September 2026 retrospective.
More ways to keep up.
Merritt expanded into audio with Beck & Call, mixing personal updates, recommendations, and listener questions. At the end of 2024, the newsletter moved to Substack. Today, Merritt’s New York-based work includes classic wardrobe ideas, travel diaries, the Off Script podcast, and reader styling questions in the Beck & Call newsletter.
