Mini bio

How it started.

Before the books and conversations, Mo built a career at IBM, NCR, Microsoft and Google, eventually becoming Chief Business Officer at Google [X]. In a personal essay, Mo traces the happiness research back to 2001: success had not brought contentment, so an engineer’s instinct took over and Mo began recording happy moments to look for patterns.

A book for Ali.

After Mo’s son Ali died in 2014, sharing those ideas became a personal mission. Solve for Happy appeared in 2017 and became an international bestseller. The book brought an engineering approach to joy, grief and expectations, and helped launch the One Billion Happy mission.

Conversations and the future.

Mo launched Slo Mo in 2020, inviting guests to explore purpose and happiness. Scary Smart followed in 2021, turning attention to humanity’s responsibility for AI. That Little Voice in Your Head and Unstressable returned to the practical work of understanding thoughts and stress. In 2026, Chasing Utopia brought Mo’s questions about AI to documentary audiences.
