Mini bio

How it started.

Nadiya grew up in Luton in a family with six children. She traces her love of baking to Year 10, when her food studies teacher encouraged her to keep making cakes that made people happy.

Finding her way to the tent.

While raising three children and studying through the Open University, she baked when she felt stressed. Her husband, Abdal, encouraged her to apply for Bake Off and brought her the application form. In 2015 she won the sixth series.

A shelf full of ideas.

Her work since Bake Off includes cookbooks and television programmes built around baking, family meals and saving time. Time to Eat focuses on shortcuts and planning ahead; Nadiya Bakes returns to cakes, breads, pastries and puddings. She has also written children’s books and a trilogy of novels about the Amir sisters.

Food with a personal story.

Rooza explores Muslim cooking for Ramadhan and Eid, while 2026’s Quick Comforts gathers the meals and treats she turns to for comfort. In a February 2026 interview, she also shared that she had begun working as a primary school teaching assistant.
