Finding her direction.
The child of South Sudanese immigrants, Nyma grew up first in Minnesota and then in Dallas. She studied nursing before deciding to pursue her creative interests. She began experimenting with makeup around age 21 and started her beauty channel in 2016, at 25.
The darkest shade.
In 2017, she began testing the deepest makeup shades brands offered. The Darkest Shade gave viewers with deep skin a place to see products tried on a complexion like theirs. Her Fenty Beauty foundation review tested shade 490, turning a product demonstration into a practical conversation about shade matching and representation.
Making room on the shelf.
Her work expanded into products and consulting: a MAC lipstick collaboration in 2018, nude and coral lip sets with Dose of Colors in 2021, and an appointment as CVS’s first Beauty Inclusivity Consultant that year. In a 2023 interview, she described appearing in a L’Oréal Paris True Match campaign as a career high.
