Family at the table.
Owen’s cooking draws on both sides of his Italian and Chinese family. In a Salon interview, Owen described that heritage as the foundation of their ingredients and techniques, from a Chinese grandmother’s shrimp toast to an Italian grandmother’s meatballs cooked directly in sauce.
How it started.
After graduating from USC Dornsife with an economics degree in 2020, Owen worked as a hospital dietary aide. Friend and fellow creator H. Woo Lee encouraged Owen to post food videos. Shrimp toast drew early attention in 2021, and a chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich became the first video to pass a million views.
From screen to cookbook.
Those quick sandwich builds became a calling card, with close-up preparation and the sounds of slicing, sizzling and crunching. Stacked: The Art of the Perfect Sandwich arrived on October 15, 2024, bringing that approach to a cookbook inspired by Owen’s family and favorite flavors.
Beyond the kitchen.
Owen has since taken recipes into brand collaborations, a Brooklyn pop-up and Puka’s Picks with the Los Angeles Rams and Pepsi. In 2026, the Shorty Impact Awards named Owen Culinary Creator of the Year.
