Mini bio

How it started.

Rachel grew up in and around San Francisco. Discovering that makeup could be a career as a teenager set her direction. She trained in stage makeup and at the San Francisco Opera House before working backstage in New York and Paris.

An early turning point.

In her On Makeup Magazine interview, Rachel singled out a 2000 Flaunt cover with Brittany Murphy, photographed by David LaChapelle, as her first major celebrity cover. Seeing her own work on the magazine stand made the career feel real.

Faces, stories and beauty history.

Rachel began working with Emma Stone in 2007, around Superbad. Her wider career includes Chanel and NARS roles, fashion covers and advertising, plus co-founding New York’s Makeup Museum. Fans can also hear her answering everyday makeup questions on Forever35.

What drives the work.

Rachel approaches each face individually rather than following a fixed beauty template. In September 2025, she said she was working on a memoir and finding a new creative outlet in writing.
