Mini bio

Before YouTube.

Roman grew up in Millersport, Ohio, and was making videos while still in high school. Before the online audience arrived, Roman worked at the family rope factory. The Nerd Herd, a DVD project made with friends, sold copies at Warped Tour in 2006.

Finding an audience.

Pranks with collaborators including Dennis Roady helped Roman build a following. By a 2014 interview with Columbus publication 614, the prank channel had nearly four million subscribers. A separate vlog channel brought fans into everyday family life, making that connection part of the work too.

Bigger projects.

The 2015 plastic-ball prank turned the house into a ball pit and became part of Nissan’s award-winning #WithDad campaign. Roman co-directed Natural Born Pranksters and starred alongside Dennis Roady and Vitaly Zdorovetskiy. In 2017, Roman Atwood’s Day Dreams paired ambitious projects with surprises for other people.

Smile More, every day.

Roman launched Smile More merchandise in 2013. In an Impaulsive interview, Roman explained that the words began as a personal encouragement during the factory years, before becoming a video sign-off and a brand. Recent uploads on the daily channel follow family visits, vehicles and the Smile More laundromat.
