Mini bio
How it started.
Sam grew up in a family of chefs, butchers and hunters. Watching Vegucated in 2012 prompted her to try eating vegan. She wanted the pancakes, pasta, burgers and cookies she already loved, so she began adapting familiar recipes and sharing them online as It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken.
Making it her career.
Before blogging full time, Sam worked as an art director at an art publishing company. Her early cooking videos included a lentil taco entry for the #LoveLentils competition. Winning earned her a trip to Prince Edward Island to film with Chef Michael Smith.
From the blog to the bookshelf.
Her first cookbook, Fuss-Free Vegan, arrived in 2017 with 101 vegan comfort food recipes. Fast Easy Cheap Vegan followed in 2021, focusing on short ingredient lists, quick meals and a budget. In 2023, Craving Vegan organized its recipes around cravings, from cheesy and creamy to crunchy and chocolatey.
A family business.
Sam runs the business from Toronto with her husband Adam, who joined the team in 2020 and handles its technical side. Alongside recipes and books, she offers the Easy Vegan Meal Plan and online cooking classes through The Ultimate Vegan Kitchen.
