Mini bio
How it started.
Kapoor graduated from IHM Pusa in 1984 and began in hospitality. By 1992, Kapoor was executive chef at Mumbai’s Centaur Hotel. In a later interview, Kapoor explained that becoming a chef had not been a childhood dream; the appeal was doing something different from everyone nearby.

Khana Khazana began in 1993, with filmmaker Hansal Mehta behind the camera. Kapoor recalled suggesting the show’s name and stepping in when another chef could not make a shoot. Shaam Savera, paneer-filled spinach koftas in tomato sauce, became a signature creation from those early television days.

The recipe teaching continues through Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana on YouTube and the online Sanjeev Kapoor Academy. The cookbook How to Cook Indian brings together more than 500 recipes. Beyond cooking lessons, Kapoor works on school nutrition with HarvestPlus Solutions through Nutri-Pathshala, work recognised by the World Food Prize Foundation in 2025.
