Mini bio

How it started.

Takkar grew up in Mardan and trained as a mechanical engineer in Peshawar. He sang for friends during university before a 1982 evening devoted to Ghani Khan at Edwardes College gave him a wider audience. Recordings of that performance circulated on cassette and reached music shops.

Poetry at the center.

His music returns to Pashto poetry, especially Ghani Khan, alongside writers such as Khushal Khan Khattak and Ajmal Khattak. He moved to Afghanistan in 1984, where he broadened his repertoire and built an audience on both sides of the border.

A song for girls’ education.

As a member of Voice of America’s Deewa Service, he composed Bibi Shereena after a conversation with colleague Behroz Khan following the attack on Malala Yousafzai. Malala’s fondness for the song led to an invitation to perform it at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo on December 10, 2014.

Where to listen now.

Based in the United States, he shares music through his official artist channel and streaming catalog. His 2025 and 2026 uploads include Pashto ghazals and the Persian song Naara Zad Ishq.
