How it started.
Emily turned her love of exotic animals into hands-on wildlife education. In a 2022 interview, she traced Snake Discovery to her work as a seasonal naturalist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the traveling reptile programs she developed afterward.
From questions to videos.
People at Emily’s live programs wanted more time to ask about reptiles. Educational videos gave her a way to keep answering those questions. As the channel grew, Ed left his IT job to work with her full time. Snake hatchings, animal care and everyday life with reptiles became recurring parts of their work.
A place to meet the animals.
In 2021, they opened a reptile store, rescue and educational facility in Maplewood. The zoo now offers hands-on learning alongside exhibits of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Their Adoption Island program takes in surrendered animals and helps find them homes.
