Mini bio
How it started.
Growing up in Nashville, Struggle loved writing music but did not initially see it as a career. In a 2020 interview with the Brett Thomas Doussan Foundation, he recalled finally sharing a verse with other men in jail and finding encouragement to pursue it. He said he made a record in 2003 and sold CDs from his trunk.
Building a life in music.
I Am Struggle followed in 2013. After his release from prison in 2016, he said music finally began to provide a living. His work with Jelly Roll became a defining part of his catalogue, including the Waylon & Willie albums, while God We Need You Now paired him with Caitlynne Curtis. Through Angels & Outlaws, he also began helping other artists develop their careers.
A country chapter.
El Camino brought his storytelling into country music in 2024. That year, Jelly Roll delivered his invitation to make his Grand Ole Opry debut. Struggle later told The Wrapper that the performance fell on his final day of parole, giving the occasion a deeply personal meaning.
Family and a fresh start.
His 2026 album Last Name explores the expectations attached to the Harness and Jennings names, and the future he wants to build for his children. He co-wrote its 13 tracks with Michael Whitworth, Jackson Nance and David Ray; Ned Cameron produced the album. In the same interview, Struggle described returning to prisons to share his story and encourage people to begin again.
