Mini bio
How it started.
Ali studied film after his elder brother suggested it, then worked in theatre and as an assistant at a production house. Improv and live comedy were his starting point before he made a song of his own.
The breakout.
Released on June 14, 2012, Waderai Ka Beta turned the entitled feudal lord’s son into a comic character. Ali has said the character drew on people he encountered at school, in Karachi and in his village.
Songs with something to say.
His music keeps returning to social issues. V.I.P satirises political privilege, while Ghareeban Ja Khwab, his Sindhi-language collaboration with Babar Mangi, follows a conversation between two farmers. He also teamed up with Eva B for Tera Jism Meri Marzi.
A camera and a cast of characters.
When live shows stopped during COVID, Ali began making more short sketches and dubbing videos at home. He later established The Third Act to bring production and creative work under one company.
