Mini bio
How it started.
Amy grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent six childhood years in Europe. She later taught first grade before raising her family. She made her first sourdough starter in 2013 and began helping friends and neighbors learn to bake.
Finding her audience.
She started Amy Bakes Bread as a hobby in 2020. In January 2023, an invitation to teach an in-person class prompted her to put more sourdough guidance online and try posting on Instagram every day for 90 days. The response encouraged her to keep teaching through recipes, videos and answers to bakers’ questions.
Recipes to keep.
Her work includes artisan loaves, everyday sandwich bread and recipes that use sourdough discard. In 2024 she co-wrote Our Sourdough Table with McKenna Pulda and Emily Christensen. Her solo cookbook, The Beginner’s Guide to Sourdough, followed in 2025.
