Mini bio
How it started.
Joy grew up baking with her dad and later started a wedding cake and wholesale baking business in Los Angeles in 2006. She began Joy the Baker in 2008, bringing her recipes and writing together in a blog.
Finding her readers.
The blog earned Foodbuzz’s Best Baking Blog award in 2009. Her debut cookbook followed in 2012, and Saveur named Joy the Baker its Best Baking and Desserts Blog in 2013. Homemade Decadence and the brunch-focused Over Easy expanded her work into more books.
Baking together.
In 2016, Joy started The Bakehouse NOLA in her Bywater home, teaching small groups to make pies and decorate cakes. Her next chapter is The Bakehouse Texas, a backyard cottage bakery in Bellville. She also shares kitchen stories through her Baked In newsletter.
A family collaboration.
For The Life-Changing Magic of Baking, Joy wrote with her dad, Cliff Wilson. Illustrated by Tatiana Kamshilina, the children’s book introduces young readers to her story and essential baking techniques.
