Mini bio

How it started.

Coyote Peterson and Mark Vins built Brave Wilderness around a shared love of wildlife and filmmaking. After years developing and pitching their animal-adventure concept, they launched on YouTube in 2014, initially using the name Breaking Trail.

Finding their audience.

The bite-and-sting videos became a turning point in 2016. Coyote’s encounters drew on entomologist Justin Schmidt’s sting pain index, giving viewers an unforgettable introduction to creatures they might otherwise avoid. Breaking Trail had already earned a 2015 Youth/Teen Emmy.

Beyond the sting zone.

The team also explores tide pools, reptiles and conservation work. In 2020, Wilderness Productions brought Coyote Peterson: Brave the Wild to Animal Planet, with Coyote and Mark as executive producers. Today the channel includes adventures led by Mark, Coyote and newly announced host Ray Tiller.
