Buddy grew up in Little Ferry, New Jersey, and began working at Carlo’s Bakery with his father at 11. His early jobs included washing pots and pans. When his father died, Buddy was 17 and stepped into the role of running the family bakery.
The bakery becomes the show.
His elaborate wedding cakes brought magazine attention and invitations to Food Network Challenge. Those appearances helped open the door to his own series. Cake Boss debuted in 2009, bringing the cakes and the family behind the Hoboken shop to television.

He turned family stories and recipes into his 2010 memoir, Cake Boss, and expanded into cookbooks, restaurants, and baking competitions. He also co-founded production company Cakehouse Media with Art Edwards in 2014.
A difficult chapter.
A serious hand injury in 2020 interrupted his cake-making. TLC’s Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery documented his surgeries, physical therapy, and return to work.
Still a family business.
His 2023 series Cake Dynasty follows Buddy and his extended family as the bakery grows through restaurants, shipping, and cake vending. In Legends of the Fork, he visits other restaurants to learn the stories behind their food. That hosting work earned him his first Daytime Emmy in 2024.
