Mini bio

How it started.

Duff started working professionally in food at 14. While attending UMBC, he worked for chef Cindy Wolf, then trained in baking and pastry at the Culinary Institute of America’s Greystone campus. His early kitchen experience included The French Laundry and the Vail Cascade Hotel.

Cakes and a band.

Back in Baltimore, he began making cakes in his apartment while trying to make room for life as a musician. Charm City Cakes brought his interests in sculpture, art and baking together. Ace of Cakes arrived in 2006, inviting viewers into the shop and making the team’s unusual custom cakes familiar to a national audience.

Sharing the kitchen.

His official biography emphasizes helping people discover their creativity through baking. That thread runs through his work mentoring young bakers, his Super Good Baking for Kids cookbook, and his baking competitions. In 2026, he added a live theater tour built around stories and strudel, while celebrating the grand opening of Duff’s Deli + Market in Atlanta’s airport.
