Mini bio

How it started.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Carina studied journalism and psychology at NYU. Her senior thesis explored nutritional therapy for mood disorders, and she started Kale Me Maybe during her senior year to share approachable recipes and what she was learning about food.

Finding her audience.

She has posted as Kale Me Maybe on Instagram since 2013. After college, she worked in health and wellness PR while blogging and writing on the side, then moved into full-time freelance writing and eventually content creation. Her writing has appeared in Bustle, Reader’s Digest and FabFitFun.

From recipes to books.

Her first two cookbooks were The Spiralizer Recipe Book in 2016 and Plant-Protein Recipes That You’ll Love in 2017. Both were published by Adams Media. Her recipes often put vegetables at the center, while her own approach to eating emphasizes balance rather than a particular diet.

A place for more.

Carina launched good mood food in April 2021 to bring detailed recipes and longer personal writing together. By that launch, she described having a few hundred thousand Instagram followers. Today, fans can follow her 30-minute budget meals and Meal Prep for Food Snobs series alongside essays about everyday life.
