Before the Test Kitchen.
Chris worked in bookings production at Vogue, organizing photo shoots and talent. Passing the Gourmet Test Kitchen made a different kind of working day seem possible. Culinary training at the French Culinary Institute led into a career developing recipes, including work as a Bon Appétit kitchen assistant and roles at Real Simple and Food & Wine.
The blind tasting challenge.
After appearing in Bon Appétit videos, Chris became the host of Reverse Engineering in 2019. The premise gives fans a close look at the way a recipe developer thinks: identify a dish without seeing it, then work out how to make it. The first challenge was Gordon Ramsay’s beef Wellington.
Helping people cook.
Today Chris leads the food teams at Bon Appétit and Epicurious. Beyond recipe development and video, Dinner SOS brought that teaching instinct to listeners’ kitchen problems. The show paused after its June 2025 finale. In From the Test Kitchen, Chris also shares the thinking behind recipes and the work of the team.
