Mini bio
How it started.
Dana grew up near Wichita and studied communications with an emphasis in journalism at Wichita State University. After graduating in 2008, she worked in marketing and later as a web writer and photographer. In a 2016 interview, she recalled selling living room furniture to help buy a digital camera and take blogging more seriously.
A kitchen people could cook from.
Dana and John Shultz founded Minimalist Baker in 2012. The idea was practical: recipes should need 10 ingredients or fewer, one bowl, or 30 minutes or less. Dana developed recipes, took photographs and wrote content, while John handled design and technical work. The blog grew into a worldwide following and a print cookbook.
From screen to cookbook.
Published by Avery in April 2016, Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking brought together 101 vegan recipes, most of them gluten-free. It won gold in the Natural, Nutrition, Organic, Vegetarian cookbook category at the 2016 Living Now Book Awards.
Room for a different pace.
On The Lively Show in August 2026, Dana spoke about stepping back from online visibility and choosing a quieter life. She has also explored ceramics: Ceramigos ATX lists her as a residency alumna and the creator of Rae Pottery. Recent recipes on Minimalist Baker come from the team site she co-founded.
