Mini bio

Finding a path.

Chang grew up in Virginia and studied religious studies at Trinity College. Before committing to cooking, he taught English in Japan and worked in finance. He entered the French Culinary Institute in 2000 and trained in kitchens including Craft.

A small noodle bar.

In 2004, he opened Momofuku Noodle Bar in Manhattan’s East Village, serving ramen and pork buns. That modest restaurant became the starting point for Momofuku. His 2009 cookbook, written with Peter Meehan, shares the restaurants’ story and recipes.

Food opens the conversation.

In 2018, Chang founded Majordomo Media and launched The Dave Chang Show with The Ringer. He also collaborated with Morgan Neville on Ugly Delicious. Food became a way to explore culture on screen and to talk about creativity, failure, and identity on the podcast.

Letting fans into the kitchen.

His memoir Eat a Peach recounts his career, mistakes, and mental health struggles. Cooking at Home, written with Priya Krishna, encourages improvising in the kitchen. Dinner Time Live brings that openness to television, showing meals being made in real time.
