Mini bio

How it started.

Derek traces his move to a whole-food, plant-based diet to 2011. In a 2018 interview, he said reading his then-girlfriend’s holistic nutrition textbooks prompted him to reduce animal products. He later founded Simnett Nutrition in 2015 and began sharing videos alongside his work in nutrition.

From running to strength.

He was a lean runner when he became a nutritionist. Questions about whether vegans could build muscle pushed him to experiment with calisthenics, weights and meals made from everyday ingredients. His own training food became the foundation of Easy Vegan Muscle Meals.

Finding his audience.

By January 2019, Sonya Looney introduced him to her podcast audience as a creator with almost 250,000 YouTube subscribers. His mix of recipes, workouts and daily eating videos has continued, alongside Easy Vegan Comfort Meals and, in 2026, six weeks of Easy Vegan Meal Plans.
